Pleasantville’s basketball squads were swept by Des Moines Christian Friday night while the wrestling squad will compete in their West Central Conference tournament today at Ogden.
The Trojans’ girls’ basketball squad struggled to put points on the scoreboard Friday night as they lost their fourth game of the year, 40-27. Pleasantville failed to score a single point in the second quarter and mustered just 11 points in the first half. Joelle Johnson led the team in scoring, dropping 11 points. Rachel Harvey and Malorie McKinney tied for second on the team in scoring with eight. The loss drops Pleasantville to 5-4 on the season including 2-3 in West Central Conference play. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that his team needs to stop turning the ball over in order to win.
“We need to quit having so many unforced turnovers. That’s our biggest problem. A lot of times we throw the ball away when no one has really forced us to throw it away.”
The Trojans’ boys’ basketball squad didn’t fare better against the No. 4 in Class 2A Lions, getting clubbed 74-48. Mason Scheve led the way in scoring for Pleasantville, but registered 18 points. The 18 points is the lowest point total put up by Scheve this season. Taylon Mount was second on the team in scoring with eight. The loss drops Pleasantville to 3-3 on the season with a 2-3 record in West Central Conference play.
Both of Pleasantville’s basketball squads will be back in action Monday night. The girls will be at home for a non-conference matchup with Lynnville-Sully, while the boys will have a West Central Conference battle at Woodward Academy for the first time since 2019.
The Trojans’ wrestling squad will compete in their annual West Central Conference Tournament, which will be held at Ogden High School this year. Pleasantville will be looking to have a better performance than last year, where they finished a measly sixth ahead of West Central Valley and ACGC. The Trojans are coming off sweeping their first home triangular of the season, defeating Earlham and ACGC. This tournament will be the final major tournament before the holiday break.
The tournament at Ogden High School will begin at 10:00 AM.
